The title of Europe’s capital is disputed and Berlin is one of the main contenders. The symbol of unity between East and West Europe, Berlin is a large and populous city (the largest in EU) and with a cultural life few tourists are aware of.
There are several must see sights in Berlin and as a capital of Germany is home to several political seats, meaning there are a lot of official buildings around.
Unter den Linden, the boulevard “under the linden trees” that leads to Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate) and to the former division between East and West is a must see.
Berlin has everything a traveller may desire including an outstanding public transit and a multicultural society very few outsiders know about.
Being the largest city in Germany and fairly close, from a driving point of view, from Czechia, Denmark, Sweden.
While Berlin may be an international city, hence English is widely spoken, some knowledge of the local language (just as anywhere else) German, would be highly recommended.
OVERRATED (Be warned!):
-Berlin is a very large city. You need time to see and learn the city
-The pickpockets are in every major attraction spot.
-It gets hot in the summer and air conditioning is still rare here.
-Public drinking is fairly common
-Excessive graffiti everywhere.
-Soviet style apartment buildings in East Berlin are an eyesore difficult to recover from
UNDERRATED (Cool unknown facts):
-Unden den linden boulevard. While fairly busy this boulevard leading to Brandenburger Tor (gate) is worth walking
-The variety of restaurants. Berlin is more multicultural than expected
-While not the cheapest place, Berlin is quite affordable.
-The street food, the festivals, the museums
-Night live is a lot better than expected
-Public transport is very good and organized
